No Audio when Importing VOB

Hi, I'm trying copy some clips from DVDs. I copy the relevant VOB file on to the harddrive and then import it into Movie Studio. However I only get video and no audio. This method works fine with DVDs I made myself but not with any other ones. I live in Ireland so the DVDs are PAL. Any suggestions??

Using VMS 7 I've just dragged and dropped a vob file onto the timeline with no problems at all - PAL and 5.1 audio. Could your audio be DTS?

I'm using VMS 4. I'm not sure about the audio. How would I check that?

I've always changed the file extension to .mpg before importing it. If you do so, you can check if the file has audio by playing it in Windows Media Player first. Granted, the only ones I tried only had stereo soundtracks.

If you're trying to import commercial DVDs, the audio format should be on the case. It's probably AC-3 (Dolby Digital), which I don't think v4 could handle.

Dolby Digital 5.1 seems to be the most common audio type. Would you recommend an upgrade to to VMS6 or 7 from VMS4 (not just for this issue but generally for a more powerful package with greater options)?

For $50 you're getting AC3 support, 1 or 2 more video tracks, key framing, compositing and various improvements to DVDAS (which I don't use). There have probably been additional transitions and effects too. I think it's good value, but it all depends what you want to do!
