Vegas 6.0b

I'm new to Vegas and have never really done any capturing... only edited existing clips.

I'm trying to capture now but fullowing the help instructions and I get to the point of choosing a device but Vegas 6 does not see the 1394 device and reports .. no device found. However when I plug in the firewire cord, an onboard device finder sees it and offers to open varius apps..

I also have Vegas 5 on board and if I choose it, my firewire port is seen and the video comes thru loud and clear. What am I missing in Vegas 6?
