No CD Burner in Vegas Video when logged in as Guest in WinXP

Hi all,

Whenever I log in as Guest under Windows XP, my users cannot see any CD burners in the Options | Preferences | CD Settings dialog box (Burn Drive is empty). However, when a user with administrative privileges logs in, the drive can be seen.

Can anybody suggest a solution to this? I'm figuring it's a permissions problem, but I'm kind of stumped as to what precisely might be wrong. I really don't want to give all my users administrative access just to use the program, though :)

The system specs are as follows:

Windows XP SP1
Pentium IV 2GHz, 256MB RAM
HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8400B (I'm not sure about the brand of the CDRW - came with my IBM).
Vegas Video 3.0c Build 138.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

-JB

That's exactly what I had to do in Win2k. Except I was simply trying to enable them to *rip* cds. No go - even as Power Users. I figured the problem would be solved with time but I guess not. Maybe why MS by default installs all new users with admin privs in WinXP.

Anyway it hasn't turned out to be as disastrous as I thought. I deleted references to Admin Tools, etc. from their login and enabled their recycle bins. Knock on wood, they haven't bought the systems down yet!

Yikes, I was hoping for a better solution. :) I guess that's what I'll have to do. I sorta figured maybe there is a certain single permission I can let them have to enable this thing to work, but I suppose not? :(

Stupid MS :P

XP is designed to have more security.

Try this:

1. log in as administrator
2. right click (from Explorer) on the drive you want to "share", select properties, then the sharing tab
3. follow the prompts

Haven't tried myself, files you want to share may need to be in a "shared" folder.
