Are you using firewire to the camera?
Does the LCD screen on the camera show color?

Bob,

Have you set the channel selector on the TV to LINE? For many TVs that is Channel 1, and on some TVs it might even be Channel 0.

Wait a minute:
Isn't that a PAL camcorder? I'll bet you are trying to use a PAL camcorder with an NTSC monitor. That's why it looks black and white.

Digital 16 is black = 7.5 IRE for NTSC (US), Digital 235 = 100 IRE
Digital 16 is black = 0 IRE for PAL, Digital 235 = 100 IRE

If that's the case the cheapest solution might be a PAL VCR. Maybe others have better suggestions.
