'No compatible video codec found.'

An error occurred while creating the media file New Track 1 avi. i just started to get this message, with the subject line, when I 'render to a new track', or use file/ render as. I use NTSC DV, and Video for Windows templates.
I've been working on a project for 3 months rendering to DV as I go, and now the codec is gone. Where did it go? Do I have to reload V4? What will happen to my project files? Your help would be appreciated. John.

Your project files should be there. Have you loaded any software recently? Some software packages can damage the codec or DLL's of an existing application. You might want to just do a repair install of Vegas. All your project files should be in place, somewhereon your system wherever you stored them. Do a search for *.veg in your search tool, you'll find the veg files, and the veg files should find their media once opened. If not, Vegas will try to find them on its own.

Thanks Spot. Sure is quiet around here today. The only recent SF install was Wax. Any else have this issue with it. John.

Nope, wax didn't do that...you might have gotten a corrupt file somehow. First thing I'd do is a repair install of Vegas.

Spot, repair worked and am rendering now. Thanks again.
By the way, concerning the copyright problems recorded on the forum, I wanted you to know that it moved me to contact a local guitar shop, which led me to a local musician who came to my house and we recorded 6 usable tunes for my sports videos. All gratis at this time. It was easy to craft the timing and such to fit my project requirements and not the other way around. Add this technique to your arsenal. It is possible, and thanks for the push. John.

VERY COOL!! Glad the repair worked. I've had to do this a couple times. Congrats on the music, too!
