No compatible video codec was found

I've converted PAL DV AVI to NTSC DV AVI no problem.
Bring rendered AVI into new NTSC DV Vegas project, all works fine, can play file back through ADVC-300 (once I switched it to NTSC!) everything happy. Goto PTT and I get "An error occurred while creating the media file. No compatible video codec was found"
This happens after rendering the W64 file.

This is pretty odd, change back to original PAL AVI, PTT is fine.
I tried a NTSC project with some generated media on the timeline and same result yet no problems with PAL project.
Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?

Are you using an NTSC vcr or camera?

Hi Peter,
I'm using an ADVC-300 switched to NTSC, preview works just fine.

VCR is dual standard SVHS machine

Well,
it looks like I can get it to work by using the uStuff DV codec. This makes NO sense at all that I can see. There isn't a codec involved when doing PTT is there?

Do this mean the Vegas codec doesn't support NTSC?

Sorry just joking, but between DVDA dramas and then this I'm not having a stellar start to the new year in Vegas!

Stiffler,
I downloaded it and it reports both files were created with a Sony Digital Video codec and everything else looks as it should.

The only oddity is that it says the NTSC file that I rendered is 4:28 duration which it sin't, correct duration on the TL.
In any case even staring with generated media I cannot PTT anything NSTC without this error unless I use the uSoft codec. I cannot use AVIcodec to see if the SOny codec is installed as it doesn't show itself anyway.

I guess I could just go with that, the files been rendered with the Sony Codec and no further rednering is involved for PTT so this is all very strange. I've tried several restarts and not a shred of diffrence

Well I can PTT my NTSC rendered file so I'm dumping it out now.
Still doesn't make me feel very confident though.
I cannot PTT from the TL anything NTSC and can find no way to resolve why. The error message if far from informative!
I can only assume it needs to find the codec to check if anything needs rendering prior to PTT but obviously it can find the codec aotherwise how am I able to render to a new file or PTT in PAL.

Once this tape finishes I'll try a few more things but I'm fast running out of ideas.

It is strange...

I hope you get it figured out, (I'm scratching my head too).

Good luck,

Jon

I just tried doing a Vegas "repair" install, don't really know just how much it does. Didn't make any difference.

1) I can discount the ADVC-300, I tried with another device same result and I know this used to work.
2) I have installed SF7 and CDA, Vegas is 4.0d so maybe there's some screwup between SF7 which also install a video codec and Vegas, one is a Sony branded product and the other Sonic Foundry.

Does anyone know how to check which codec Vegas is trying to find and which one it has installed?
Clearly something has to be screwed up very subtlly fro it to work with the MS codec and not the Vegas one, to say northing of it all working fine in PAL.

Starting with a NTSC DV AVI on the T/L I tried to PTT from the T/L no go. Just for a laugh I told PTT to conform to NTSC WS DV and it worked no problem!
Then the penny dropped, this time I'd turned off bars and tone. Switch them on, try again, it fails. That's what Vegas needs to render and why it needs to find a codec which it couldn't it seems. So I tried selecting a different type of bars. Worked fine. Went back to my SMPTE NTSC bars, now they work fine as well. Thats also why it worked doing PTT out of VidCap, no B&T.

Who shall ever know what got stuck and just what Vegas was trying to render as bars.

Tape will soon be on its way to Taiwan, that'll be the real test if it plays on a NTSC only setup.

That's good news - I'd heard that bars opened and closed at odd hours in the U.S. ;)

I thought I had this under control but it's come back again.
I can PTT NTSC video using VidCap but not from the T/L.
I'll mention again that everything works fine for PAL.
It looked like the problem was when Vegas was trying to render bars and yesterday I was able to get it to work by changing the type of bars but no, even if I select 0 bars duration it fails with the "codec not found" error messge.

I could really use some input on this problem, how do I check which codec Vegas is using and if it's installed correctly?
I've already tried a repair install and that made no difference.
