no custom template

johnnyboy wrote on 8/25/2008, 9:22 AM
As everybody says in the forum I want to render in vegas and then author in DVDA. But in the render as box I select the main concept save as, the template is DVDA Pal widescreen video stream. Problem is the custom button is greyed out so I cant set the bit rate. I need to do this so I can fit the file onto a 4.7GB DVD yes?

no one have any ideas about this please?

Sounds like you might not have registered the software.

pardon me? Ive entered the serial number and I think Ive registered how do I check?

Go to Help -> About Vegas. In the middle of the dialog you will see a registration number if you have successfully registered.

If you have registered the program, the other thing which can affect how much access you have to MPEG-2 encoding is whether you have installed DVD Architect. I ran into this a few times in the early days after DVD Architect was first added to Vegas. I don't know exactly how things have evolved since then. However, back at that time (it was Vegas 5 or 6), if you didn't install DVD Architect, you either couldn't encode MPEG-2 at all, or that encoding was limited in some way. I don't remember ever having the Custom button grayed out, but I think it was something like that.

So, if you haven't installed DVD Architect, since that comes with Vegas Pro, you should try doing that installation and see if that fixes the problem.

i have the platinum version with DVDA installed and I have the reg numbers in the about window. Ive noticed that selecting Main concept mpeg1 gives me the custom button but not mpeg2

MPEG1 comes as default. MPEG2 needs a full registration. This is really pointing towards a registration issue? Did you register using the online process?

Ive just re registered and got the message box thank you for registering etc. restarted the prog but no luck still got the custom button greyed out for mpeg2. Would it have anything to do with settings for ffdshow. I installed this so I could access the audio in AVI files.

This is a user forum and is rarely if ever monitored by Sony Customer Service.
For your support and registration questions try the other "Support" link options at the top of the page.
Best of luck!

i dont have a problem with registration, I have already registered!

As has been mentioned at least twice in this thread, greyed-out MPEG-2 options are, in our shared experience, often due to some error or discontinuity in the registration process. Unfortunately, other than sharing anecdotal experience, which may or may not work for you, the vast majority of users here have painfully little control over that process for themselves or for others. That is why I respectfully suggested that you contact Sony Customer Service and explain the issues and the corrective steps you have taken to them. Also, if you purchased/downloaded the software through a third party you should have all of that information to share with Sony as well. I hope that you are able to experience the full features and value of your software!

Aren't custom MPEG2 settings only available in Vegas Pro?
musicvid10 wrote on 9/3/2008, 8:21 PM
Really? Then how would Studio users adjust their rendered file size for use in DVDA?
Chienworks wrote on 9/3/2008, 8:27 PM
Most do so by rendering to DV .avi and then letting DVDAS' fit to disc function choose the bitrate when it does the MPEG2 encode.
musicvid10 wrote on 9/3/2008, 8:34 PM
Well, if that's the case, it answers the OQ. I (and apparently johnmeyer and Grazie) had no idea there were no custom MPEG-2 render options in the non-Pro versions. Thanks, Kelly!

Musicvid, this is what got me stuck in my own particular "Gotcha!", it was our friend's " . . .no luck still got the custom button greyed out for mpeg2. This is what and where I was hanging my feedback on.

So, like a dog with a rag, I just went through the Vegas family comparison table.

I knew, but hadn't consciously made a point of clocking the difference between VMS PLAT and VMS PLAT PRO!! - Anyway, here it shows MPEG2 being available as "MPEG 1&2 import and encoding" through the schema. Well, yes it would. But again having the option available to render from either within the NLE OR rather than the DVDA side of things, for this chappie, ain't transparently obvious!

But why have the MPEG2 greyed out anyway? Why not just omit altogether? Otherwise we get the questions as per this post? Again, musicvid, there IS a VMS Plat PRO Pack. Would you include this in your "options in the non-Pro versions" observation? Tricky, huh?

And I thought the London Bus timetable was complex . . . ?

Wow!
Seems Sony really mucked up the naming scheme with these versions, and no wonder so many people are posting in the wrong forums.

I think the first question asked of a new poster should be, "Exactly what version are you using?" and then steer them to the appropriate forum or resource. We're seeing LOTS of "apples" responses to "oranges" questions, and this confused thread is but one example. I, for one, did not know that there was any difference in the MPEG-2 rendering options between the versions or that apparently the Custom button is always greyed out in his version.

Of course, a search of the VMS forums, as I just did, would have revealed the correct information, but I just assumed it was a registration bug . . .

Oh, and thanks for the . . . errrm, clarification, Grazie.
