Very disappointing that Sony decided to release Vegas 9 Studio with DVDA 4.5 Studio. What good is having all the ability to edit hidef and not burn it?
Best bet is to save up a couple of hundred dollars more and get Vegas pro , you will then have DVDA5 with Bluray support...you cannot expect sony to give you all the bells and whistles for a base program such as Movie studio...I am sure that later on it will be available, but you will have to pay extra for the ability to burn Bluray....Nero 8 charges an additional $25.00 for that ability...and Pinnacle requires version 12 ultimate....You gotta pay to play....
Sorry the Pro Pak does NOT include DVDA 5!!!!!!!!!!!! You still get version 4.5 which does not include burning Blueray.
To Warriorking - hell yeah I do expect it. When Blueray has finally 'won' the format and Sony being the main supporter, I certainly do expect Blueray support in ALL their software. I can't afford gas for my car and no way I could afford Vegas Pro even if I wanted it. With so many other competitors supporting Blueray, Sony totally missed the mark with VMS 9! I'll take my $99 and spend it some where else.
I know, that was sorta my point. This is just yet another screw up on part of SCS, and absolutely, you should take your business elsewhere. Ulead works if you can live with their video editor. For some reason this is a lot easier for tiny, and not so well staffed, Ulead, but SCS simply can't get it done. If the lead architects, engineering managers or whoever is the source of this very long line of screw-ups on part of SCS doesn't get fired soon, we are all toast. And that would be a shame. Vegas is a great product.
Guy's I was not being disrespectful in the least, its just that Bluray even though it won the format war is not really mainstream as of yet, mainly due to the price, which in time will go down, but for now almost all software makers are charging extra for the Bluray burning...I think that Pinnacle would fit your needs for the price range you are looking ...Nero is more limited in editing....Everyone needs to really research the product before buying...Bashing a company because it dosen't offer you everything for free that others pay for in more expensive software gets you no sympathy ...Hope you find what you are looking for.....
I think this debate is getting over-complicated. People who had the full version of DVDA 4.5 got it as part of Vegas Pro and were given the upgrade to 5.0 when it became available. We don't know why that happened, but it may have been because 5.0 was in the pipeline when 4.5 was published.
People who got DVDAS 4.5 either got it as part of Vegas Movie Studio or as a stand-alone package. Their version has more limited capabilities, such as no scripts or subtitling. I do not think it unreasonable that they (we) should get the upgrade to Blu-Ray without the other enhancements, also for free (or even for a modest cost).
It may well be that is what will happen, but SCS simply haven't yet produced the DVDAS version.
for now almost all software makers are charging extra for the Bluray burning.
Yes they are, almost all of them. With the notable exception (in this market) of Sony. Since SCS doesn't offer anything in this market. That's totally and utterly absurd. Sony is the prime driver behind the BD format. They currently offer a rather crippled solution (honestly, I think it is pretty pathetic) in their Pro product line and nothing in their consumer product line. That's insane. It is so insane you have to wonder if there is anybody in SCS that actually oversees the development of these products.
To help him out I would say Pinnacle12 Ultimate is still his best bet, I have Pinnacle 12 as well as Nero 8, both burn Bluray quite well...Pinnacle 12 Ultimate offers much more Editing features and Menu's than Nero.. It can be purchased for under $100.00 online...It also does AVCHD discs on the fly as well...Both are great for his needs at the price point he wants....Vegas Pro is still by far better than Pinnacle ,but it also comes at a higher price point...as expected...
