No emailed serial V8pro

DelCallo wrote on 9/23/2007, 8:51 AM
Ok, paid for my new upgrade via debit card. Downloaded the software, tried to install it. It needs the serial number. Went to my email, no serial number or email from Vegas. Now what. I could call customer service but they are closed on weekends. Any suggestions welcome. Oh, and I don't see any way to use the product in demo mode, either. I could live with that for a day.

Help.

Check your "My Account - My Software" at the top of this page and see if it shows up there.

Go to the My Software area of the website and look under My Software. All your license keys are listed there.
Chienworks wrote on 9/23/2007, 11:15 AM
Are you sure about that? My serial numbers usually don't show up there until after i register, which i can't do until i've got the serial number.

Check your spam checker and make sure you didn't block the e-mail from Sony.
DelCallo wrote on 9/23/2007, 1:48 PM
No spam checker, there is plenty of spam getting through. There is no email, no serial number, I'd have been better off to download the demo version. At least I would be able to use it. Sony needs to either fix this or have someone working on weekends to deal with it.

I am PO'd enough to cancel the upgrade.

It is a bit odd. Every other place on the 'net where i order download software, the final 'order accepted' screen shows me my serial numbers, activation codes, etc. right there on the website. I'm also emailed a copy of the same information. Sony is the only place i know of that sends that info only through email.
TheHappyFriar wrote on 9/23/2007, 2:39 PM
i got the e-mail within minutes. Are you SURE you purchased the upgrade & didn't cancel before it went through? I even save all the pages that say "print me, i'm a recpeit" when I buy something online.

Did you check "my software"?
CClub wrote on 9/23/2007, 2:51 PM
When I ordered mine, I accidentally unchecked Download, and so I had indicated that I wanted it shipped, and thus they didn't email me the Serial Number info. Do you think you might have requested the wrong option also?

I had to call Customer Service, they had to cancel the order, I re-ordered and requested Download, then the Serial Numbers were sent via email.
DelCallo wrote on 9/23/2007, 6:22 PM
Thanks for the replies. I'm not infallible, of course, but, I can go to 'my account' and then my orders and view the order confirmation complete with order number. It states that I purchased the download version, and, of course, I have the downloads to prove that for myself.

I wish, at least, that the software would allow me to run in Demo mode - they do that much for folks who haven't purchased.

I thought I might try downloading the demo version, also, but, for some reason (perhaps to do with the fact that I have already downloaded the real McCoy) it won't work, either.

I'll just have to pace myself in biting off my 'finnernails' until I can reach customer service and get a serial number.

. . . today would have been a perfect day to have played around with the upgrade. Oh, well.

the demo is identical to the full, minus the mpeg/ac3 stuff. but if you have a previous version of vegas that's not an issue.
UlfLaursen wrote on 9/24/2007, 10:29 AM
Have you tried to call customerservice? You must have a transactionnumber from your creditcard that they can track.

he couldn't call yesterday (sunday = closed) but hope he called today.

Called yesterday. Received serials for both V8 and DVD4.5. I was a dope. Never thought to ask the Sony guy if he could just complete the registration for me so that I would have an authentication code also.

Got back to my place (I'm away from home, now. No internet connection at the Apt I use during the week. Set up my 'puter, fired up V8, entered the serial, and am presented with a request for the authentication or registration code.

Of course, I don't have that - you have to go to the 'net for it. There was a nice little blurb about how to do that on another computer if yours isn't connected to the 'net, but it still involves going somewhere else to access a computer with an internet connection.

I cannot believe that Sony allows potential customers who have not yet paid to try out the program, but someone with a serial number can't use the thing for a few days without registering first. I simply cannot believe that.

I've been back to my office and have my registration for V8. So, hopefully, tonight I'll be able to start playing with the program.

DVDA4.5 won't even install on my stranded, internetless computer, because it needs some MS installer 3.1 which I either missed during my product download or the install sequence from Sony is set up that you have to obtain that from the net during install - I don't know which, so that problem may be my ignorance.

In the good ole days, you paid your money and you had your product. I've been a faithful Vegas user since version 2.0 - never stole a piece of software in my life, yet, am treated like a thief by this new delivery system.

I am probably over reacting, but, I am very disgusted by this. OTOH, I trust I'll be delighted when I finally get this thing up and running.

Have a nice day.

i'm suprised you don't have MS Install 3.1. Nearly all software required it as of a few years ago.
DelCallo wrote on 9/25/2007, 2:44 PM
Well, I run Vegas 7 and DVDA4, so, you would think that, if the MS Install was required for them, I should have it already. I remember that some MS Install was requested and downloaded on Sunday when I installed V8Pro, but, apparently it wasn't version 3.1 that DVDA4.5 needs (that doesn't really make any sense, now, does it?).

Anyhow, I'm done fighting it. I'll just, hopefully, carry home my brand new registration number for V8 and play around with it until I get myself and my computer back to my real home this weekend so that I can complete the install of DVDA4.5.

What just really surprises me is that you can't even try out the newly purchased software without having a live internet connection, serial number, and registration number. I really think Sony should rethink how this authorization business is setup. They are, in effect, punishing some folks (like me) for purchasing the product instead of downloading a trial version prior to purchase.

Anyhow, I'm done ranting for now. Gonna leave this office and go play with my new V8!

A very good evening to all.

Up until Vegas 8, I said every company should do it like SF did/Sony does: internet, phone & from a different computer. Then they removed two of the three options.

PC games are doing the same thing, but some even install DRM-like software too. It's getting sad imho. I've seen games on Valve's Steam that, supposedly, are nearly impossible to pirate have no-steam (ie no call home) patches the next day. It's getting to be more trouble for legit people (like you) to use it then it is for people who want to use it illegally.

The day Vegas does what most games/other software (like new versions of TMPGenc) do, IE call home on each run, i'm done. I don't buy games that do that & won't spend hundreds for "professional" software that does that.

All three options were available for me. What do you mean they removed two of them????
TheHappyFriar wrote on 9/26/2007, 6:33 AM
I don't remember having any option to register, it just did it automatically via the net. If you had the option to call/use a separate machine was it because I typed mine # in via the trial? I've never done that up till vegas 8.
jetdv wrote on 9/26/2007, 6:47 AM
I had the standard screens. I installed the full version, entered the serial number, and then was given the options of internet, other computer, and phone so it all looked the same to me. Going through Help - Enter Your Serial Number may be different.
DelCallo wrote on 9/27/2007, 4:03 AM
The options, I think, were there for me. But, without a serial number, nothing worked. This was on a Sunday when there is no live chat or phone service from Sony. I understand that the non-email of the serial had to be some sort of system error to which anyone using a computer (including Sony and your truly) may be subject. But, what really got my goat was the inability to use the application in trial mode - even crippled or otherwise limited trial mode until receiving the serial.

It is really just a sad sign of the times.

did you ever get an e-mail? that's your reciept too. the piece of paper that comes with the package (if you got it) is just an invoice.
DelCallo wrote on 9/29/2007, 1:07 AM
Yes, the email finally came through after I had chatted live to customer service and received my serials during that session.

I'm at my permanent residence, now, and have installed the complete upgrade, V8, media manager, DVDA4.5.

Thanks for asking.

ok, so the e-mail didn't arrive on it's own, a tech support person needed to send you one themselves. :( That sucks.
potw wrote on 10/7/2007, 7:20 PM
Same thing happened to me. I know I ordered the download version (it gave me download links and I downloaded). This was Friday evening so I've been dead the whole weekend. I e-mailed tech support but won't get an answer until Monday at best.

The odd thing is when I fill out the Missing Orders & Serial Numbers form to try to get my serial number, it says (for the order number option): "The order you entered has already been assigned to your account." Well I know that already!!! This is the account I set up after I ordered it. But what does that have to do with the fact that I wasn't sent my confirmation email with serial numbers as promised? (Also not a spam filter issue going on here.) If I try to use my e-mail address, it says: "We are sorry, but the email address you entered to reclaim has been used to create a www.sonycreativesoftware.com Account." Again I already know this but it has nothing to do with what I'm trying to do.

Why isn't there a simple "re-send my confirmation e-mail" option like other sites have?

Sony needs to figure out the technical issue and bring someone in to consult to them who understands basic human factors principles of web site design!
