No Extensions

I have this problem posted on several Forums, as it is very perplexing and I need to act on it ASAP. I do not know the best route to take to resolve it, so before I act I ask all of you here:

After having a freeze-up in Vegas 12 Pro while attempting multicam editing using Excalibur, I now find that in both the Edit and the Tools drop down menus if I check for Extensions I get a grayed out menu stating No Extensions. I can clearly see a number of tabs with various VASST extensions, so I know that there are extensions loaded. I uninstalled Excalibur and Timeline Tools (which seem to conflict with each other, by the way) and rebooted a number of times, but to no avail. I even restored my PC to a few days ago when Vegas showed all of the installed extensions, but nothing seems to work. What can I do to get Vegas to show the extensions in the correct places? If I remove Vegas 12 and reinstall, will I lose all of my 3rd party extensions, VSTs, and special tweaks that I performed in Preferences (the hidden ones that were noted here and on the Sony Creative Software Forum, which preferences I don't even remember I changed or even how to access them now)? Please advise on the best form of action, and thanks in advance.

I can't speak for other Vegas Extensions, but Timeline Tools appears under the View / Extension menu; as does several others: The View / Extensions menu shows all Extensions that are located at:

C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Vegas Application Extensions

Vegas looks for Extensions in different locations depending on the menu item chosen. View / Extensions, Edit / Extensions, and Tools / Extensions are the three menus that let you add Extensions.

You said that Timeline Tools and Excalibur conflict with each other. Can you be more specific on what it is that's the problem? I've never had any reports of problems from TLT users who also have Excalibur installed. If there is a problem I'd like to understand what's at issue between the programs.

When I used Revouninstaller to uninstall Excalibur, I was alerted that it and Timeline tools were using the same space and Revouninstaller had listed that some of the Timeline Tools files would also be uninstalled. I stopped this process, this time attempting to uninstall Timeline Tools and I got the same message. This time some of the Excalibur files were slated for removal along with the Timeline Tools files. I uninstalled both extensions in an attempt to get SVP 12 working again. So far, no luck! Any more ideas?

By the way, I can't get into C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents on my C: drive, and I do not see a \Documents\Vegas Application Extensions in My Documents on my D: drive. FYI, I have an SSD C: (Boot) drive, and my profile was moved to my D: drive to conserve space on the boot drive, a common practice as I was told by my professional PC builder.

Just to make sure you understand what I'm saying, you do realize that when I said "C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents", the word USERNAME means whatever YOUR PC User Name is. Not literally USERNAME.

If you can't access your C: drives My Documents\Vegas Application Extensions folder, that's the problem. If it doesn't exist, it must have been somehow.deleted. If you simply have no access rights, then you are either not logged in as that user, or your folder permissions have been somehow hosed.

I've never heard of Revouninstaller. And frankly it's completely wrong in telling you that TLT and Excalibur are sharing components. TLT only uses two components; Itself and another .dll that I wrote called RicherTextBox.dll (note: it's RICHER not RICH textbox). However if you are running Revouninstaller while Vegas, TLT, and Excalibur are running, then yes, they do share the same space (not components). TLT and Excalibur, and every other Vegas Extension for that matter all run in the Sony Vegas application space.

I believe that I now have it all straightened out, and everything again appears to be working properly. I apologize for the confusion, but having an SSD boot drive and having my profile moved partially prevented me from totally understanding what was going on. The tree on MY PC is:

D:\(USER NAME)\My Documents\Vegas Application Extensions

where there reside DLLS and a few other files for Excalibur and Timeline Tools (both of which now are playing nicely together). There also is an Excalibur folder under Vegas Application Extensions that has additional files required for Excalibur to run.

Evidently, Revouninstaller got confused and thought that Excalibur and Timeline Tools shared portions of the same install routine, but after uninstalling and reinstalling both programs everything now is working properly. Thank you for your explanation about what was going on from your perspective.

I'm happy to hear that you are back up and running.
