No External Monitor

domsky wrote on 12/28/2000, 8:23 AM

I can capture in Vegas Video 2.0b, I can write the file
back to the camera (PC100)so I am very confused that I can
not use an external monitor (via the camera).
In preferences I have ticked the OHCI card box, and it
even says that the device is connected fine and is
operational when the camera is firewired up.
I have pressed the 'view on external monitor' tab and am
using the same DV pal file type that the project is set to.
I am using a Gateway 700 meg P111,win 2K, with a OHCI card
and 256 megs of Ram.
I feel like I have missed the obvious here, but I have
pressed every available tab in every way possible. I would
have started juggling drivers were it not for the fact that
the capture and playback from the capture facility work
great.
Any ideas.

Well stumped. Dom.

Make sure you have set both your project and your external monitor to
NTSC DV (or pal if its a pal camera)

Yup, done that..it has to be something
a little more obscure.
The file I am using as a test was captured
by the sonic foundry capture facility from a
PAL PC100, the project settings are PAL DV and
the external monitor is set to PAL DV.
As I said the camera capture and write to tape
are O.K., so the OHCI card must be operational.
I tried pre-rendering, again using PAL DV.

My brain is starting to hurt.

Cheers for the reply.

Yes, ain't that strange! Gives me headache too.
I have perfectly the same problem and i've been fighting
with it for a while, and nothing yet. I think it could be
something with PAL support since everything is natively for
NTSC. I'm using W2K and directx8. It's sad that such cool
feature won't work...

Are you using the updated release of Vegas 2.0b. I know
there were some bugs fixed in Vegas 2.0b having to do with
External monitor enumeration. BTW, Oscar, just curious,
did you simply install the DirectX 8 end-user redist or did
you install the DirectX 8 SDK or SDK redist. to get PAL
support working in Video Capture?

I have the updated version 2.0b installed
but am a little confused as to the differences
in direct x 8.0 'sdk...' etc. I got the direct x
upgrade from a cover disk and installed over the top
of the older direct x 6.0.

Cheers,Dom.

Basically, there's a couple different ways to get DirectX 8
installed. One is the MS end user redist installer
downloadable from MS, another is installing the DirectX 8
SDK (software development kit), and yet another is
installing the DirectX 8 SDK redistributable. The last 2
options will provide PAL support. When you say "cover
disk" what exactly do you mean?

By cover disk I mean a disk that comes on the front of a PC
mag.I guess that means I got the first option you spoke of.

I have been to the microsoft site and am a little confused as to
which sdk to download....I am going for the visual basic dx8 right
now ?

Yes i have the 2.0b(362) version, isn't it the latest one ?
the directx version is the downloadable one. do you think
the extrnal monitor could work with the SDK versions, since
it dont work now.
How can those directx's be obtained anyway?
Strange thing is that the video capture started working
only after i uninstalled the previous version of capture.
and not by installing the new one on top of it. MAIN LINE:
external monitor still doesn't work for me in vegas.
nothing happens.

Oscar is using a mobo with the Via chipset...

Here are the known Via chipset issues on the MS website

You might want check on system startup if there is a BIOS
setting for modifying your system's PCI Latency. If
possible, set it to above 32.
