Wakiyan missed a "T" and the .com in the address.

I've gotten this error on my external drive when I connect my dv camera through the drive and then plug it in. For some reason plugging in the DV cam sends a quick signal through the external drive even though the cam is off. So what happens is I get the bell noise like it found new hardware followed by the disconnect sound right after it. After I go ahead and DO turn on the DV cam and try and capture I immediatly get a "delayed write failure" error.

In my case I think it has something directly to do with connecting the cam THEN plugging it in...in that order. I always plug the camera in THEN connect it and haven't had the problem.

I have 3 maxtor firewire drives, I get the error only on the oldest one. It will usually work the first time I plug it in, then fail shortly there after. I always thought my drive was bad. I will check into it when I get home.

I read through the entire link referenced in this thread. Note that after nine months of various workarounds, the final solution was to install Microsoft's service pack 2 (SP2) (the one that was just released). My guess is that this includes something similar to the patch to which I have posted links (see: Firewire 1394 Solutions). If you don't want to install SP2, this patch will probably help. You can uninstall the patch if you decide it doesn't help or for some reason you don't want it installed.
