No Mpeg Audio

I'm so confused. I've got 2 problems with rendering MPEG-2 videos: (1) No sound most of the time, and (2) the format doesn't show up as wide screen in Windows Media player.

First, the audio. I've been rendering my videos as AVI because I can't get any audio from mpeg. Now, I'm ready t make a DVD and the AVI files are way too big for one DVD (>17Gb). I need to render my movies as MPEG so that they'll fit on a standard DVD. I want to use MPEG-2, not MPEG-1, because I understand that it has better quality.

Here's what I do to make the movie:
- click on [Make Movie],
- choose "Save it to your hard drive",
- in the render settings dialog, choose MainConcept MPEG-2 with a template of DVD NTSC.

I swear that I'm doing the exact same thing each time, but it seems like more than half the time I don't get any audio. The Desciption box says: Audio: 224 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, Layer 2, and to use this setting to render "an MPEG layer 2 audio stream". What am I doing wrong?

Also, I just bought ULead's DVD Workshop. It's not cheap, but base on a review in Video Maker magazine, it is the most comprehensive DVD authoring software. I haven't even loaded it yet but want to prepare my file properly.

Several templates, such as DVD NTSC Video stream do not contain any audio. If I choose this setting, how do I get all 3 audio tracks out of ScreenBlast and into my DVD authoring program? I don't see any templates for just exporting the audio, but all the tracks are already there and in sync with the movie. I don't want to have to edit each audio track in a separate edtorand re-sync each one again. Please tell me that there's a better way.

Finally, when I render an MPEG movie and play it in Windows Media player, it does not show as widescreen (16:9), but instead shows as standard 4:3 format. I presume that this is just due to MPEG not being able to tell the Media Player that it should be in widescreen but that my MPEG file will be fine when I bring it into DVD workshop for final rendering to DVD and choose a widescreen format. Do you know if this is true (that the MPEG file is really in widescreen format)?

I'm sorry if I put too many things into one post, but I think that they are all related. So, it seems better to group them in one post. Thanks for any help that you can give.

Save the video as .avi format.
Install DVD Workshop

Workshop is the program that will change the .avi to .mpeg

Always import from camera, edit, and render as .avi
This format is best for editing

The software that burns the DVD will change it to .mpeg2

Thanks for that info. I'll give that a try soon.

It appears that my MPEG audio only drops off if I choose make movie and make the selections as I describe. If I click on the [Advanced Renderer] button & choose the exact same settings, I get the audio. That appears to be the difference between one attempt and the next try. If so, it sounds like a program bug.
