No MPEG support?

Well, Vegas Video is done and it doesn't support MPEG. I
don't know maybe I'm nuts, but I think that it's absolutely
ridiculous that Vegas doesn't support MPEG. It's such a
kick ass product as well, but for something so small not to
be there, makes me keep the beta 264 installed. Maybe
there's a good reason for not having a feature to support
the most widely used movie format going (for me it's all I
use.) I can only pray for a patch or something from Sonic
Foundry. Any thoughts on this guys?

The MPEG format is such a bitch to work with that you're better off
converting it to another format before bringing it into an editing
environment at all. Sure, I agree it would be nice to just drop it in
for some quick editing, but honestly, it's a consumer format. I
consider the time it takes for me to convert an MPEG to a lo-rez
uncompressed AVI to be quickly regained once I start working.

But hey, that's just me. I can understand the demand. I do remember
reading something on the beta pages about MPEG support being quite a
job to implement, and I do agree on the policy that seems to be SF's
mark: If it don't work 100%, we won't include it at all. Not an
altogether bad policy.

It seems SF want us to pay extra for file conversion plugin as they
did with mp3 for Vegas Pro 1.0
Also I noticed it has no QuickTime format save option.

I have noticed that mpeg format is used for web pages.

Vegas Video DOES have Quicktime save as support

It should be noted that we are actively addressing an MPEG solution
for Vegas Video. We haven't forgotten or ignored the MPEG user and
we'll be releasing a an MPEG2 plug-in as soon as we can...but we're
not going to ship it until it is done right. Please check
www.sonicfoundry.com periodically for updates.
