No preview while capturing VHS footage

Hi all,

I'm trying to capture some old VHS videos using Sony video capture located within Vegas 13. (I'm using a Win 7 PC as well).

It works fine and I can see the footage but when I press "Capture" to start recording the footage the preview window goes blank. The footage still records fine but It's a pain having to record down entire VHS videos the go back and edit the bit that I want.

I can't find any sort of option for this anywhere and I'd like to be able to see what is being captured so I can stop/start at the right time so if anyone can help me that'd be great.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using a Firewire Canopus ADVC-55. It's an older model but it works and as I say, I can see the preview playback fine when it's not capturing but when I hit capture the preview disappears.

In the capture application under "Options", you have three preview choices; "Never Preview" which completely suspends previewing video during tape navigation and capturing. "Smart Preview" which enables the Video Preview window during tape navigation and suspends previewing while capturing. And finally, "Always Preview" which enables the Video Preview window during tape navigation and capturing. You want to set it to "Always".

When using Vegas capture to capture VHS, I found that in order to see what is being captured I went into options/preferences/general and unchecked the 'enable dv device control' box. When capturing DV (from a D8 camcorder for example), the box should be checked in order to see what is being captured. This worked for me anyway....
