I've been editing 27 short videos lately (a local actor showcase). So far I've finished 13 of the 27 actors. Each video is between 2 and 5 minutes in length. There is some color correction on each video clip (thanks Grazie!). The actors were shot using two cameras (an HMC150 and an HVX200). So far I have not seen a single red frame using Vegas 9.0c. Here are the things I'm doing differently this time around:
1) I'm not using NeoScene/Cineform for any of the footage. The HVX (P2 MXF) footage is getting transcoded to "RayLight Green, Self-contained AVIs" using the last version of RayLight before RayLight Ultra came out (I never upgraded). The HMC footage (AVCHD) is going directly on the timeline without being transcoded at all. Before this project, I'd always been using NeoScene to transcode AVCHD footage to the Cineform codec.
2) I'm using the 32-bit version of Vegas 9.0c. I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit. Before this project, I'd only been using Vegas 9.0c 64-bit.
3) I'm not adding any resources to the timeline from the Vegas Explorer tab. All resources first get added to the "Project Media Tab" (i.e. in the Explorer tab, right-click on the file and choose "Add to Project Media" (or something like that)). Then I only add the file to the timeline from the Project Media tab. I saw someone mention this is another forum post talking about the red frame problem, so I figured it was worth a try. Before this project, I always worked from the Vegas Explorer tab and hardly ever looked at the Project Media tab.
Anyway, that's all I'm doing differently. Not sure if just one of those items was the "fix" for me, or if it's a combination. But for now, I seem to be successfully using Vegas 9.0c, which is very nice indeed.
Take care,
-joe
