No Screen Displays showing up Vegas Stream Video Input source dropdown

TM wrote on 2/22/2022, 3:38 PM

In my new installation of Vegas Stream, when I go to Setup > Video Inputs and select the Source dropdown, no Screen/Display sources show up in the list. In fact, the list is completely empty (there are no cameras attached to this machine) I only want to stream/record from the desktop. Audio sources seem fine. Are there special video/application settings required to share the screen to Stream?

Thanks!

Settings - Video Input - select "Display"

Thanks, but that is the dropdown that has nothing in it. Actually, it says "None" and can't for the life of me figure out why.

That would be the first thing to figure out.
Check help/driver update in VEGAS for the latest GPU drivers?

Both of my displays show up here in Stream.

You are on Windows 10?

Yes on 10. It is just an older GT 630 but I use it with a number of streaming services with no issues. No notice in the Driver update window. Thanks for the tip.

@TM I'm not sure why your display isn't showing up, but you may want to try this. Install OBS Studio and its NDI plugin. Then, add a Source in OBS for Display Capture and Select NDI Output Settings in the OBS Tools menu.

Here you can set the Main (NDI) Output Name. Then, when you click the Source drop-down in VEGAS Stream, you should be able to select the name you set in the OBS NDI Output. Mine is just named "Camera", but you could name it "Desktop" for easier reference if you were to add multiple NDI outputs, which can easily be done by launching multiple OBS sessions concurrently. I have a second NDI Output for presentations and a third for my web cam, where I key out my green screen in OBS. It works really well.

Thanks! I have OBS on that machine, but I've not done anything specifically with NDI. I'll give that a look today.

Do you happen to know if you can install Steam independently of the full Vegas install? I want to put it on a couple other machines to see if I get the same problem.

Yes, VEGAS Stream can be installed separately as well as Live 2 Post (which is only needed to bring the titles into VEGAS if you don't have Titler Pro)

Thanks a ton guys and it installed just fine w/out Vegas. FWIW, Stream does display a message across the actual stream requiring you to install & authorize Vegas 19 on the machine, but since I just wanted to test the video sources (Still not showing the desktop) and graphics import into Vegas (seems to work just fine), it does the trick w/out

As far as Titler content, I'm still getting Titler packages that import but do not render (or partially render) and the more testing I do the more it seems like it is related to building custom graphics packages by selecting different graphics from the various included libraries. The ones that seem to fail the most are ones that have animation sequences (beyond just fading or sliding in). There are some extruded title graphics that rotate in that almost always fail.

Since it seems to be working for everyone else, I'll keep poking along.

Thanks again for your help and ideas.

@TM thanks for working with VEGAS Stream and the Live 2 Post workflow. I am the Product Manager for NewBlue's streaming products, and I wanted to reach out regarding the issue you are running into where Display Capture sources are missing. Could you email me directly at calebc@newblueinc.com and send a screenshot of your NewBlue Application Manager, so I can see which build you have installed?

I have observed similar issues when working with graphics in VEGAS from a Live 2 Post recording. I think it has to do with the handling of the "sequence" for the graphic, which is designed to reflect any updates to variables in the graphic during the live stream/recording. It would be helpful if you could send me your VEGAS project, as well as any .nbtitle files associated with it, which would enable me to test on my system.

I'll look forward to hearing from you, so we can get to the bottom of the issues you're having!
