No Sound

Rendering in vegas 10. Saved file with .veg extension. Rendered video stream, then rendered audio stream. No sound in final project.
Audio was in vegas - could hear it in the audio stream. Any ideas? And I'm confused about the file name in "save as". Should it be the project name, and then I name the renderings "test" "disc1" etc.?

What format did you render to?
How are you watching/listening to the rendered file?

Rendering to DVD Arch NTSC and I was trying to listen in Windows Media player.

You can call the project and renders anything you want as long as it makes sense to you.
I give both the same name and use whatever it is that I'm working on.
For example, if it's a play, the project and renders are called the name of the play.
For playback, Windows Media Player may not be able to play AC-3 audio.
Try VLC or Media Player Classic instead.
Both are free downloads.

I'm copying AVCHD clips from an SD card into Vegas thru import media. Then I build my timeline, add time stamping, save the file to give it .veg name. (wasn't doing that yesterday, but kept getting "invalid file name" error.) Then render the video and audio per the knowledgebase instructions for use in DVD Arch Pro.

This has worked recently, but now I'm not getting the audio
Your help is greatly appreciated. I'm new at this.

If I copy the file into DVD Architect Pro for burning, there is no audio audible there either.

Laura,

For DVD Architect, you should render two media files - one for audio, one for video. Look at the following tutorial. Pay particular attention to part starting at 2:10 . Both files should have the same primary name, however one should have an mpg extension (the video) and one should have an ac3 extension (the audio). DVDA will recognize the pair as video & audio.

If you really want an mpg that will play in WMP, then render a separate file that has the "Included audio" in the custom render specs. but do not use this as a source for DVDA. It will work, but DVDA will go thru a separate render - taking more time (and you have less control of the output).

Good Luck!

All the default DVD Architect templates are video streams only, meaning no audio. You have to use the custom -> audio tab to include audio if you want it as part of the render.
Normally you will render a DVD Architect video stream and a separate AC-3 audio file giving both the same name. DVD Architect will then use the audio (AC-3) with the same name as the video clip.

Hope that helps

Willem.

Edit: Jerry beat me to it with a much better explanation.

Jerry,
That is exactly the procedure I use. I render the video stream with the mpg extension, and then I render the audio stream selecting Dolby Digital AC-3 and Stereo.

But still no sound in the rendered file when I copy it into DVD Arch Pro.

I don't need them to play in WMP, but I was just checking them there and found I had no sound. Any other ideas?
Thanks so much!

Okay, Next step. In DVDA, check the media properities - do you have two files listed? Same name, two different extensions?

Edit: One more thing, do you see a waveform in your audio track?

I will try these. I might have gotten impatient when the Audio Peaks were building. Does that affect it? If I moved forward without waiting for that to finish? And if I click in the audio track and hit play in Vegas 10, I can hear the audio. BUt I don't know if it's a wave form like you posted a picture of.

Is there a way to rebuild the audio peaks just in case?
You're a lifesaver!

Try View | Rebuild Audio Peaks (Shift + F5)

Oh! One other thing I just thought of - your .mpg & .ac3 media files must be in the same Windows Folder when importing into DVDA.

I do put the .mpg and ac-3 files in the same folder, and I name them the same name. I used the "rebuild audio peaks" and rendered the file again, and still I have no sound.

Guess I'll have to try Tech Support on Monday unless someone else has an idea.

When rendering, which boxes down below the "save as" lines are checked?
Just a thought.

Jerry, I don't see "media properties" in DVDA.
L Woods wrote on 4/23/2011, 12:55 PM
Jerry,
I found the "media properties." My audio 1 says "none" instead of a file name.
L Woods wrote on 4/23/2011, 12:58 PM
Jerry,
I copied the "audio" file I'd rendered into the audio track of DVDA and now I have sound in DVDA. They'd told me I only had to copy the video stream in and the audio would be attached, but for some reason it's not.
I'll try this and see if it works. If you know of any problem this creates, could you share?
You have VERY helpful. Thanks so much!
Happy Easter

A few days ago I had a similar problem, audio was not picked up by DVD Architect. I had to use replace, from the drop down for audio in Media Properties.

To display Media Properties, double click the media, in the list on the left, or the menu item on the layout.

Yes, it should be automatic, but the extra step of copying the audio file is certainly less than onerous.

In DVDA under Options - Preferences - General, make sure the following option is enabled.

Automatically link similar audio and video files

Select this check box if you want the software to look for and link audio files with the same base name when you add a video-only file to your project.
For example, if you had a video-only MPEG file (MyProject.mpg) and an audio file (MyProject.wav) in the same folder, the software will automatically use MyProject.wav as the audio track when you add MyProject.mpg to a menu.
Clear the check box if you want to add your audio files manually.
