No sound from deck

Hey,
I'm shooting an interview in the morning and they want to watch the replay immediately afterwards. I'm planning on recording directly into a laptop via firewire and then for playback was planning to playback the timeline in Vegas via firewire out to a JVC deck and then AV outs to a TV. Video looks fine but there is no audio...am I missing something here?

Vegas does not transmit audio via Firewire when you use the external preview. You will have to connect the headphone jack to the monitor if you want your audio to come from the monitor's speakers.

Wait a minute John, I think (hope) you misunderstood...the firewire is going into a JVC deck with AVs going out to the TV.
If I can print-to-tape why wouldn't it send audio via firewire on playback (unless you have to print-to-tape to get audio)?

Well, that's just not the way that Vegas works, it outputs audio from the timeline to the computer's soundcard. It only outputs audio via Firewire when its printing to tape.
