no sound in MPEG-2

I am importing in an AVI file from my digital eight camcorder TRV 350 , I have about 15 gigs of files with audio whenever I import them to Vegas studio 4a

I can hear audio during preview.

I click on make movie save to hard drive I use the main concept mpg-2 option. The audio shows up in the description box as
Audio: 224 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, Layer 2
Video: 29.97 fps, 720x480

Use this setting to create an MPEG-2 file with an NTSC DVD-compliant video stream, and an MPEG layer 2 audio stream.

I have noticed whenever I'm making a smaller file that sometimes as described above there will be no sound but whenever I re-render the file there is audio. It is like trial and error.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program as well, there are no programs running in the background. No mute buttons are selected!

Are you using the latest update? There were some of these problems reported in the initial release. 4.0a reported fixed the problem.

While this doesn't address your problem, keep in mind that MPEG-2 audio isn't a requirement for NTSC based DVD players to support. The players are only required to support PCM and AC3.

So if you are making DVD's that you are going to be sharing with others, you may want to start looking at PCM.

I had the same problem when I upgraded to Vegas Movie Studio 6 platinum and never had the problem with 4a.

I posted about the problem and there was also an update issued addressing this problem, but that had been included in the software I bought.

I kind of stumbled onto a solution that worked for me. I found that if I had been using my computer for awhile, working with large files, and then making the movie, I frequently did not have audio. However, if I finished the editing, saved the project, and rebooted the computer - so the computer was working with full resources, I had no problem with audio.

I'm not sure this will help but it may be why you are experiencing problems with larger files.
