No sound on clips

Hi I am new to Movie Studio 9 and starting to tear my hair out! I have installed the Studio 9 but when I drag the clips onto the timeline only the image moves - nothing appears on any of the audio channels. Also when I preview the clips the image plays but there is no sound. I have tried the same clips on a friends copy of Movie Studio 9 and they play fine (with sound) so I know it isn't the clips.

Any ideas what I can try?

What is the source of your video? Usually when this happens it means that your missing a codec. Does the clip play on your computer with WMP or other player?

I have added a load of codec and the clips play on the computer with sound but there is no sound in movie studio. The clips are coming from a Sony DVD handycam.

Thanks

Download the free utility G-Spot. Then drop your video file in it. It will tell you what codec you need and whether it is installed on your system or not.

Make sure that your audio is not muted. There are at least 3 different ways that the audio could be muted.
What format is the clip from your camera and how was it captured?

Thanks. I have checked and it isn't muted. The problem is more that when I drag the clip onto the timeline only the image appears and not the audio (although I know that the clips have audio as when they are played elsewhere audio is present). Also when i drag a music clip with no pictures down onto the timeline it goes straight into the audio section and the music plays out.

The clips are in .mpg

I have isolated the problem. Apparently there is a glitch with Move Version (9.0)a with certain files and this can be solved by downloading a fix from the Sony website (9.0)b. Thanks for your help.
