"video" is a pretty generic statement.

What is your source?
What is your format?

Just a little basic information would help here . . .

I'm importing DV video via firewire. It's a tape I dubbed from some of my own video. It's an avi file recorded on 16-bit. I also tried it at 12-bit. I can hear the soundtrack when I play it on my camcorder.

How are you capturing?

In eight years on these forums, I have never heard of DV-AVI with normal 16/48 audio importing incorrectly.

I'm capturing through Windows moviemaker, through firewire, just like I've done a hundred times. i just tried capturing the same tape on iMovie, and the soundtrack comes through fine. I'm going to try capturing through Movie Studio and see what happens.

Windows Movie Maker creates noncompliant headers. I've never gotten the captures to work in Vegas Pro. I don't know what's changed for you, but using a compliant capture utilitiy like the one built into Vegas or the third party Scenealyzer Live is what most people use.

You are correct. Tried capture in Movie Studio and it worked. Thanks.
