No Sound When Video Captured

Hi - apologies for the newbie question!

I've just started using Sony Vegas 5. I've tried to capture video so many times but have no luck as there is absolute silence! Video plays back no prob and everything else seems to work ok. Intrestingly enough, when I'm capturing, the only sound is coming through the camcorder and not through my speakers. I'm using a firewire.

Any help greatly appreciated - I'm so close to deleting this off my system!

You've got Audio enabled in your Video Capture Options?

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, I have.

Is it possible that the audio is actually on Stereo 2? MiniDV Allows for 4 channels of audio but Vegas will only capture Stereo 1. You may want to try Scenalyzer Live which WILL capture Stereo 2.

HI,

Thanks again for getting back to me.

I'm trying to record using another programme now, Windows Movie Maker, and having the same problem. I can hear the tape on the camcorder but nothing is recording apart from the visuals.

I tried looking at the Stereo 1/2 options but it appears that only Stero or left and right seems to be available. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

I'm using a Samsung Digital Cam.

When I drag any captured video to the time line, the audio time line is a straight line - in other words, nothing there. I've tried looking through the settings so that I can choose my device, but the only thing that appears as an option in 'audio' in the 'capture device' section, is my grayed out sound card.

Any ideas and I would be extremely grateful. Going slowly mad here!

I would still try Scenalyzer and see if IT sees something on the second stereo channel.

Hmmm, yes do what jetdv says. Since Windows Movie Maker does not capture the sound you should also have a look in your sound card settings. Also consult the manual for the camera and look in it's menus. Maybe you have to tell it to send the sound out through firewire.
Don't forget to tell us what you find out.

What is the specific model of the samsung? Looking on their site, I see a couple cams that create AC3, just like the Sony and Toshiba cams do. Vidcap shouldn't see this, and I've never heard of AC3 going down a 1394 cable, but just wondering.
That, and as suggested before, if you've got 4 channel or 12 bit/32K audio, that could be an issue. I wish no one had ever invented the 12 bit for DV cams (or any camera)

Hi,

Still battling with camcorder - and still looking at the prospect of silent movies...!

I'm using a Samsung VP-D10 Pal, which has mysteriously disappeared from the Samsung site. I've had a go with scenalyzer (2.1) and the sound comes through though has a split second delay. As far as I'm aware, the settings are 'stero' - sorry if that's vague, frustration is getting the better of me.

Once again, thanks for your time and help and any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
