No stereo when encoding with AC3

I notice that when I encode my audio from the Vegas 5 timeline using the ac3 template, when I burn to a DVD I no longer have a stereo soundtrack. The same .avi file encoded in other DVD software to PCM audio retains the stereo. Any ideas?

AC3 can only be stereo or 5.1 Are you selecting 5.1 rather than stereo for some reason?

Are you saying that in your other DVD software, you end up with a Stereo track and an AC3 track, or are you saying that your AC3 track is not in Stereo?

Spot - I'm using the default template in Vegas to encode the ac3 audio. When I read the description in the little box underneath it says it's stereo. In the template drop down box there's a choice for "Stereo DVD" but the description is identical to the default template.

Dave T2 - the ac3 encode is not stereo
