No video for H.264 AVI Files

Hi guys. I searched the archives and couldn't find anything on this. I have a short test H.264 AVI video from the new Creative Labs Vado HD camera. I think I have the right downloaded free codec decoder installed (ffdshow) but only get audio when I drag the clip in...no video at all, only a black preview window.

I understand that H.264 is giving LOTS of people problems in both Vegas and Pinnacle Studio.

I've got Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0b installed.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

For AVI h.264 you need ffdshow: Install the latest “generic build” of FFDshow at the “SVN builds by clsid” section. Make sure you’re downloading from clsid’s section. http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/

Thanks buddy! I had a "slightly" wrong version of ffdshow and apparently that made all the difference. I downloaded and installed the latest version from the link you suggested (ffdshow_rev3040_20090724_clsid) and I can import H.264 files correctly and edit them with "reasonable" speed in the preview window, although certainly not at 30 fps. It's at least acceptable for now (until either a better codec, a better computer or perhaps a graphics card whose GPU can be used for decoding).

Thanks again!
