No Video Output

I'm thoroughly confused. I streteched a section of video to make it play faster, added a short title and music then rendered the video to an output file and I get the video of the title, then the music after that, but no video for the section I stretched. I get a black screen only along with the music after the initial title video.

I'm baffled. The only thing I did differently than what I normally do is that I rendered the original stretched video to a new track first, then stretched it again to make it play even faster before creating the final output.

Of course, it plays perfectly fine in the preview window and I tried several different output file formats and codecs with the same results.

Does anyone have an idea what's going on?

Thanks.

Steve

Rendering to a new track always seems troublesome to me. I never use it. Find the file created by that process and use it to replace the original video clip on the same track where it was. Remove the new track that was created.

I would have just rendered the sped up clip to a new file to begin with, not used the render to a new track feature.

The reason I did this was because Vegas seemed to limit the maximum stretch I was able to do on the original video which didn't create fast enough motion for what I wanted so my logic was to "render" to a new track, then take the newly rendered video and stretch it again to speed it up even more.

This worked or so it seemed, until I tried to create the final video output.

Now here is where it gets even more interesting. I did some testing and discovered that if I have the preview window quality set to "Draft" or "Preview" I can see the sped up video in the preview window. If I have the quality set to anything higher (Good or Best) I get a comletely black preview window but only for the sped up portion of the video--the text box at the beginning of the video shows up fine in all quality modes!

What the heck is going on?

Is this a bug or some weird side affect of what I'm doing? The video I'm using is from a screen capture tool (Snagit) captured at 640x480 but I don't see why that would have any bearing on this problem.

To make things even more confusing, when I open a new project and bring the original captured video (unstretched) into the timeine, I can view the video perfectly in any preview quality setting!

After stretching the video, I can still view it perfectly in any quality setting. After rendering to an external file then bringing it back and and stretching again, I can still see the video fine and now it's creating the final output file without any problems.

Weird, so who knows what the problem was--possibly something with the render to new track as you suggested or something else.

Weird. Try moving the event on the new track down to the main track instead and see if that helps.

Nope, that didn't do anything. I suspect there was some strange mysterious interaction with the way I did things, perhaps the codecs used and who knows what else, but this is likely very difficult to reproduce and I've already deleted the original files, since I got it work work correctly by redoing everything is a slighly different method (not using render to new track).

Oh well...another unsolved mystery.
