No video stream with AVI file

I am trying to use an AVI file in Vegas 7.0e that was recorded on a compact "point and shoot" camera. Vegas only recognizes the audio stream - not the video stream which according to the QuickTime Player is Motion JPEG OPenDML, 640x480 with a data rate of 13.65mbits/second. Both the QuickTime Player and the WMP play it without any problems.

I've tried dragging the file on to the time line and importing as media. Vegas puts the audio stream as a clip on the timeline but no video. Any ideas?

You need to download an MJPEG codec. There are a few free or inexpensive ones available. Check videohelp.com for details.

The MainConcept site has a MJPEG plugin. There is a demo you can download. The full MJPEG product costs money, but the demo can be used for free to decode MJPEG. If you encode, the demo will add a watermark, but the decoder doesn't do that. This is what I use.
