no video when dropping mp4 files in timeline

Everytime i try to open in trimmer window or drop in timeline a file that is either quicktime mp4, or other files in multimedia (320x240) format, Vegas 6 reads the video track as "media offline" (in the trimmer window) and the timeline just opens up the audio. I tried to select the project properties in multimedia and still nothing!
Any advices?

try downloading Vegas 6d, it should work.

now it works...but i still cant open MVI files, have to convert them first in mpeg4 and then work in vegas with them. Is there something to be done in order to open MVI directly
