No voice on imported video clip

marios wrote on 8/12/2010, 7:02 PM
I first downloaded data from my camera's memory card into my hard drive. Then I imported the video clip into Vegas Movies Studio from the hard drive. The clip plays but there is no sound. I know there is sound on the video clip because I can hear it when playing it in a different program.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

OK, we're halfway there.

2) Download MediaInfo, and post the file details and codecs used. Codecs are explained in my beginner's tutorial here.

4) The Quicktime Version is in the format 7.x.x
In order to know if your version of Quicktime is compatible with your version of Vegas, we need to know the Quicktime version number. Thanks.

I played the clip in Windows Media Player and went to properties. This is what I get

Audio codec: ffdshow Audio Decoder
Video codec: ffdshow Video Decoder

Does this help?

Your version of Quicktime is incompatible with Vegas Movie Studio 9. Quicktime 7.6.2 or earlier is needed with your version of Vegas.

MediaInfo is a freeware utility that gives you information about your video files. You can find and download it by typing MediaInfo into a search at www.google.com

Then we need your file details and codecs as reported by MediaInfo.

I also hope you will read the tutorial. Thanks.

So should I uninstall my current Quicktime and download Quicktime 7.6.2 or earlier?

I downloaded MediaInfo and this is what I get

AVI: 29.8 MiB, 30S 330ms
1 video stream: AVC
1 audio stream: AAC
Writing library: AMBA
ICRT: 21:21:10

First video stream
8 106 Kbps, 1920*1080 (16:9), at 29.970 fps, AVC (Main@L4.0)(CABAC/4 Ref Frames)

First audio stream
128 Kbps, 48.0 KHz, 2 channels, AAC (Version 4)(LC)

Is this what you need?
musicvid10 wrote on 8/12/2010, 8:57 PM
To use MediaInfo, you right-click on your video file, and click MediaInfo in the context menu. This give the full file details.

However, the summary you posted gives enough information to point to one possible cause of your problem.

Search for a download of Quicktime 7.6.2 or 7.6.0 and install it. You will also need to replace iTunes 9 with iTunes 8.

If that does not solve the problem, you should upload a sample of your original camera video to Mediafire or another upload service, not youtube, and let us take a look at it.

Good luck.

MediaInfo does not allow me to copy the text. Can I e-mail you with my screen shot?

musicvid10 wrote on 8/12/2010, 9:06 PM
if you pick the text or html option, you can copy it and paste it into a reply

Replace your version of Quicktime with 7.6.2 or 7.6.0 and your iTunes with version 8.
Use the forum search feature to find suggested download links.
Post back your results.

I am installing iTunes 8. I don't know if it matters at all but I did not have iTunes at all. After I finish iTunes and QuickTime you want me to repost results. Do you mean MediaInfo results?
musicvid10 wrote on 8/12/2010, 9:17 PM
No, your results are "whether it works or not."
marios wrote on 8/12/2010, 9:40 PM
No it is still not working. Also my iTunes is not working. I get this error message:

The iTunes application could not be opened. A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall Quick Time. (-42404)
musicvid10 wrote on 8/13/2010, 8:21 AM
Uninstall or reinstall iTunes. Since you don't use it I guess you can uninstall it.
Double-check your Quicktime version to be sure it is the older one.
Upload a clip of your camera video to MediaFire. 30 seconds will be fine.
marios wrote on 8/13/2010, 11:09 AM
I completely removed my iTunes.

I check my QuickTime and it says:
Version 7.6.2 (515)
QuickTime tm Version 7.6.2 (1324)

Here is the MediaInfo date for the clip I am importing:

Upload a clip of your camera video to MediaFire. 30 seconds will be fine.

We haven't seen video from this Radio Shack camera before, so it will be necessary to run some tests. You have done the right thing to install QT 7.6.2.
marios wrote on 8/13/2010, 12:36 PM
Ok I uploaded a video file to MediaFire. The file name is IMAG0007.AVI. What do you want me to do now?
musicvid10 wrote on 8/13/2010, 2:12 PM
Post a link?
musicvid10 wrote on 8/13/2010, 3:45 PM
OK, here is a workaround for you.

1) Download AVIDemux (free).
2) Open AVIDemux, drag your file onto the window.
3) An "H.264 Detected" message will come up, click "No."
4) Leaving everything else at "Copy" select MP4 as the Format.
5) Click the "Save Video" icon (second from the left on the toolbar).
6) Give the file a name, such as IMAG0007.mp4
7) Click "Save."
8) The new file, you can drag right under the IMAG007.avi on the timeline and line it up. The new file will contain the audio, but not the video.

I strongly suggest you open a technical support ticket with Sony, and include the link to your file. That way they can get it on the list for the next update release.

I know it is a bit of a chore, but Sony can't keep up with every new pocket camcorder that is released. For an interesting discussion of these cameras, see my other article here.

Me too. But you're welcome, I guess.
