Check the Klipsch forum. They will go into a ten page depth on proper cleaning of vinyl.

Sounds like the mold may have been generated from the source material. (Just kidding; it's one of my favorite operas.)

We've cleaned old records using a soft lens brush with bulb. Gently brushed in a rotational manner while pumbing air with the bulb.

Also check out amazon.com -- "vinyl record cleaner" -- where you'll find quite a few commercial choices.
