I recently had a problem with vegas and music match, they couldn't coexist and work correctly. My dad mentioned the size of my library the other day and I thought that having 663 songs live in the library would most definitely take up a lot of resources. So I was thinking of two possibilities, one of which might not work (i don't know). What I was hoping was being able to download music match, but somehow be able to have two different libraries...one for each. I don't know if this is possible but if i could trick the system into thinking they are two different programs...that'd be cool.
Would I be able to designate more memory to the program (i have plenty extra) and would this solve the problem? Any other ideas would be appreciated (besides deleting songs, and using winamp)
thanks,
elias

I don't use Music Match, mostly because it has one of the most tortuously difficult interfaces of any player i've ever seen (hint, download SonicFoundry's SIREN ... vastly superior interface and much easier to use!) so i'm not really sure how it operates. But, I can't imagine that it loads your library into memory or needs more resources depending on the size of the library. The songs themselves are only on the hard drive until played, and the playlists aren't terribly huge files. I've got SIREN running here at work right now with 613 songs in my library and it's only using 31MB of RAM.

I'm not sure what you mean by two different libraries. One for each what? Are you going to try to set up two different MusicMatch installations? Vegas doesn't have music libraries. Also, when you say they couldn't coexist, does that mean you couldn't have both MusicMatch and Vegas installed? Or can you have them both installed but can only run one at a time?

I used music match for a while but found my work computer could not handle it - it is VERY memory tasking!! My home computer its fine - but I got Media Player 9 - you ought to check it out very easy on the RAM - unless you are a die-hard gates basher

I am guessing you mean Music Match Jukebox? I have had both MMJB and VV on my system with no problems at all. Not sure what you are asking because one should in no way interfere with the other *unless* you are trying to play music with MMJB while you are editing with VV - and if you are doing that than you shouldn't be.

If you are not trying to use both at the same time I go back to asking what is the problem exactly? The amount of Mp3's on your harddrive, or in MMJB's 'library', would have no effect on how VV ran although if these MP3's were in the same directory as your video files that you were trying to bring into VV I could, perhaps, see a problem with loading all the files into a VV bin as some people have reported bin issues of various degrees. But that is a big *maybe* only because you didn't say exactly what issues you have/had with VV and MMJB. As I don't know what issues you are having - maybe just degrag the hard drive. But as I said - I have had both VV and MMJB and no issues at all with either at any time.

Hi Marquat!

Ummmm, you're asking exactly the wrong person here. I detest all skins with a passion and wish the concept had never entered our universe. ;)

But, on a barely more helpful note, i'll point out that the skins pack page that SonicFoundry used to have seems to be missing these days. Try doing a web search for "siren skins" and see if that turns up anything. You could also try posting in the SIREN forum here.

I'd also suggest upgrading to the 2.0c demo version as it's much nicer and more polished. You won't be able to do MP3 ripping/encoding with it since you can't purchase a license anymore. However, if you decide you really do like it and need the MP3 capability, then you can get the Sony Screenblast version. Looks like they've unfortunately bundled it with ACID now for $69.95 instead of being able to get it separately for $29.95. Rats.

Yes, i do indeed detest skins. I'm a die-hard subscriber to the old Windows 3.1 motto of "make all software look and operate according to the Windows design specification". Maybe it's just me, but it took me over five minutes just to figure out how to open and play a song in MusicMatch. Probably the bizarrely beautiful buttons would make much more rapid sense to some other people, but i look for pull down menus across the top and rectangular grey buttons with black text or pictographs. Consistency is not a bad thing in interfaces. That's probably why i like SIREN 2 better ... it's closer to the old Classic Windows interface than 1.5 is.

Imagine hopping into someone else's car and finding that the stearing mechanism was a joystick between the seats, the gear shift was a keypad on top of the dashboard, and the headlight switch was that eerie glowing ball where the radio used to be. Sure, might be nifty, but i wouldn't want to try driving it.

OK, i'll be honest and admit that there are three skins i do use:
1) Windows Classic theme for XP
2) Netscape Classic theme for Netscape 7
3) Media Player Classic skin for Media Player 9

Of course, if you read the first paragraph you'll see why i use them ;)
