I just downloaded from my Sony SR-100 mpegs. To check them out on windows media. There was no sound. I played back from my camera there was sound. I went back and to some clips I did last week that I had watched on Windows media there was sound, but now when I checked there is no sound. Any suggestions on where to start checking to find out how I can trace the problem? Also I noticed that both my DVD do not play sound, when I know there is sound. That I noticed 4 days ago when I burned a DVD thought I had mucked up. When I played it on a DVD Player sound was there but not when I play on DVD. I am not sure if it's connected, but all of a sudden no sound DVD, and now know sound on Media Window player.

Does ANYTHING have audio? Have you checked "sounds" in control panel, or "volume control"? It has quite a few different settings for all of the input and output signals. Also make sure that the volume control on your systray isn't muted. Try all of those if there is no sound on anything.
Oh yeah, do the level meters indicate sound in Vegas?

I have checked control panel not muted, sound control when Media windows is up was checked too and vegas 7 has all audio. So definitely Windows Media issue

A few checks spring to mind.

Mute (already mentioned and checked).

Volume (idiot check - easy to do)

Now the more useful one.
Under tools, options, there is a DVD pane. Check what settings it is using under the advanced tab. It may have switched, say to a digital, or multichannel output?

Also, checl with regular movie footage, do you get sound then - (ie, not DVD, but initial MPEG file). That will help narrow it down to movies in general, audio in general, or specifically DVD.

I appreciate all the recommendations and we did all the checks. The next thing we tried was to download set of codec for winxp. Which should have been there already. Darn if that wasn't it! Now all are play fine with sound. Even my DVD player has sound too. FYI: When we brought up the window media player it did say codec aquired. Which is why I did not think missing codec originally. Glad all is well and life is good........................................
