Noob question about screen size/settings

Hi guys! I have a Canon s95 point and shoot which I mostly use for filming 'video clues' for a trivia night I host. I shoot in the Standard Mode 1280 by 720 HD, Edit the completed movie with Sony Vegas and then burn with DVD Architect 5. The problem is, when I do this the final video only takes up a portion of the tv screen rather than filling in the entire screen, if that makes sense. It's as if the video is smaller than the tv so it ends up with a large black border around it. This happens on both my tv at home and my tv at work, so I think it's related to the settings or my camera or something rather than the tv. When I play a standard DVD that I rent on my tv it takes up the entire screen. Does anyone know why this might be happening, and if there's a solution, even if it lowers the quality?

Thank you!

Are you using a widescreen TV? If so, did you render (in Vegas) and author (in DVDA) to 16:9 widescreen?

Next, check the settings on both the TV and DVD player to make sure they are working with widescreen 16:9.

Hi dxdy- thank you so much for responding. I'm rendering to the following settings:" NTSC DV Widescreen 24p." It does appear to be in the widescreen 'shape,' but it doesn't take up the entire screen. I'm wondering if, with the Canon S95, they make the actual frames smaller to achieve HD. That's just speculating. Gonna go look at DVDA to see what I can do.

OK-I'm back! With good news! It seemed the default settings were 4:3 for DVDA. I switched it to 16:9 and burned another disc. Now it seems to be perfect! I'll have to test it at work. I guess I just figured that DVDA would just burn to whatever format the movie was.

Thank you so much for your help!
