Noob question... What are scripts?

Ok, I know what a script is, but how does Vegas use them? I was just browsing the forums and stumbled across this whole subject. I'm not understanding why you need a script to run in a non-linear editing program.

Does anyone have any good links I can read on this subject? I'm trying to learn as much as I can about Vegas, seeing how I spent the money and all, I might as well know how to use it.

So if I've got this right... this would be like if I've got 200 clips that I need to do a pan/crop and change to output ratio, I could write a script to do them all without me having to do it manually?

If I'm getting this right, I don't need scripts. I'm not doing enough real stuff to need that.

What you said is basically true.

Scripts are designed to simplify repetitive tasks. However, scripts can also add new features. For example, in Vegas it is very hard to select all items on all tracks after the cursor. The Select Events tool in Tsunami makes it a click of a button. Same with Multi-cam editing and Excalibur. Editing multi-cam project is much faster using the scripting tools.

Is scripting required? No. Can it make life easier? Absolutely.

Like for my wedding video. I had two cameras set up and I had to synch them manually. Are you saying that multi-cam thing would take care of that?

Either way, I think I'll wait until I'm sitting there thinking to myself, "hmm... this sure is hard, I wish there was an easier way..." before I worry about scripts.

Yes, I'm saying the Multi-Cam tools in Excalibur would make that task very easy. Here's an overview video showing how the multi-cam tools work.

I don't use scripts everyday but when I need, or use them thay save alot of time for me.
On one project I needed to take 3 hours of video and turn it into a time laps file, taking one
frame in 29. Doing that by hand would have been a pain, I used two script to do it in just a few
minutes.
Scripts can make life much more fun!!!
