Wish I had the widescreen for editing, but love the size of my 16.5 VAIO screen when it comes to getting through airports, and don't need a special case for it. If you travel much, you'll probably not like the wide, but if you aren't a flier, you'll love the extra space. Try opening the widescreen anywhere but first class.... :-) My regular 16.5 is bad enough.

Resolution is the issue.

My screens at home and at work are 1280x1024, which I like. If they were widescreen I'd still want them to be 1024 high. See what I'm getting at?

Some widescreen laptop monitors are 800px high. about like 1024x768 but a bit wider. I'd consider a WSXGA+ screen at 1680x1050. If you can find one in a store you should go look at it. The text may look a bit small. HP sells their ZD7000 series in this resolution (and lower) and these are in a lot of stores.

Totally recommend the 17 inch widescreen display...

As the previous poster said check out the ZD7000 series, I have the HP Pavilion zd7180us.

The widescreen features gives me a clear visual advantage when working on Vegas when you're working with multiple video and audio tracks...or when you want to split up your screen space when using multiple applications.

But that's my personal reference, Its almost like asking how do you like your DVD movies...FULL screen or WIDESCREEN?
