not able to render / make movie - Tarzan not happy

surftom wrote on 12/28/2008, 8:24 PM
OK getting really frustrated now VMS9.0b...

I have a 6min video that I want to create (if possible on blu ray) - Have a Samsug BDP1500 and a PS3

I've tried the 1920x1080i setting (Sony Codec) and it crashes Vegas right from the get-go. Tried the 1440x1080 after reading all the problems - same thing.

I tried the MainConcept codec and it got to about 27% this time then crashed - it varies sometimes at 20% too

Since I have an apple TV I thought I'd try and create a MP4 file at 1280x720 (Again Sony codec) - Crash!

About all I can do is export to a DV file (widescreen) - It worked once - then I changed something I didn't like ton the timeline - tried to re-render and .... Crash

I'm fully willing to think it might be something on my machine - but it's a fairly recent wipe/reinstall of XP

Since you read this far..... This is one of the "clean" crashes - sometimes it just dies and closes

Try this: select all your video events on the timeline, right click on them, select switches and disable 'resample'.

Don't know if this will help, but have you tried rendering with your anti virus software turned off?
I have Trend Micro Internet Security and it causes all sorts of problems with Vegas MSP (and DVD Architect)
Just right click on the task bar at lower right of your screen and select "exit". Make sure that your internet connection is turned off before doing this.
When you have completed rendering or whatever on Vegas / DVD Architect, just restart your anti virus software or close and restart the PC.
I find pretty well every action on Vegas is much quicker and more responsive and the preview is much smoother with Trend turned off.
Hope this helps.

thanks

I'll give it a go!

i am having the same problem. i cannot make anything from my project except uncompressed avi. the problem is: my project is 25 min. i don't have the 250+ GB to save an uncompressed HD avi. my goal is to make an avchd .m2ts file that i can burn to a dvd and watch on my blu-ray player. i've restarted my pc countless times, with and without the startup programs loading. i've disabled the 'resample.' i've tried everything and nothing works! i've done shorter projects before. i can't even break this project down to smaller parts and render those. instant crash. the program just closes 10 frames into the render with no error message or anything. that's on avchd. if i try wmv or something else, it goes about 10 frames and stops. the estimated time just keeps going up forever. someone please help me. i've spent a lot of time editing this project and a lot of money on this hd camcorder. my pc is plenty fast and should be able to handle it. how can sony charge for a program that doesn't work?

edit: i successfully rendered a hdv 720p m2t. i'm going to bring that into a project along with a 5.1 .aa3 and try to render that out as a .m2ts. we'll see what happens.

edit edit: 42% and still going! could be a success, knock on wood...

edit edit edit: success!

moral of the story: if you don't mind 720p, you can do it!
surftom wrote on 12/29/2008, 12:43 PM
I can't get 720p out either :-(

Would you mind posting your settings - codec etc

I'm going to reformat the disk - reinstall XPSP3 then install ONLY Vegas. If that doesn't work I'm buying a Mac and Final Cut - (I think I'm serious too)
lamous wrote on 12/29/2008, 1:15 PM
mpg2. hdv 720/30-p, nothing changed from default.
surftom wrote on 12/29/2008, 5:25 PM
So here's another 4 hours I'll never get back...
Wiped the machine clean - reinstalled XPSP3 and installed VMS (9.0b)

Copied my clips and .vf file back from the USB key I backed up everything onto

Tried to render or make movie... wait for it... crash!

Though ok... maybe something in the media or timeline so started new project. Tried to render/make a blu-ray compatible file.... crash.

Starting to save apple bucks first thing tomorrow morning |-(

(I do have a Mac Mini with iMovie 07 and while it has nowhere near the control I have in Vegas - the project (with the same clips) came out first time)

I'm exhausted.

You could try lowering the maximum rendering threads to 2 or 1 - Options / Preferences / Video tab...

Also do any of these suggestions help:

I'm having a similar problem when I render Sony AVC videos, other rendering options are ok.
