If I understand what you are asking, you can burn AVCHD footage to Standard DVD's at high quality, but will be limited to (nominally) less than 15 minutes of play time. Furthermore, the DVDs will only be playable on (certain) BluRay players.

Much discussion in this forum surrounds rendering HD footage to SD format for standard DVD production. While not the ultimate solution, I've put together a "Quick & Dirty" tutorial for creating SD DVDs from 1080i source.
