Not much luck with Mpeg2 SVCD

JohnnyQ wrote on 11/24/2002, 12:59 PM
Using VV 3.0 I rendered a short 10 minute segment of a piano recital to Mpeg-2. The mpeg-2 file plays nicely on my computer. I used NTI to burn an SVCD. The SVCD also plays nicely on my computer, however my DVD player plays the video at a lesser than real-time rate and the audio suffers a constant stuttering effect...
Any suggestions appreciated.

It seems like your SVCD is not standard or your DVD player is not SVCD complaint.

Also, you may want trial the maxium bitrate that your dvd player can handle. SVCD has a combined bitrate(audio & video) of 2600 kb/sec, but with my pioneer dvd I keep it at 2500 kb/sec (2276(video)+224(audio)).
Play around using a CDRW to find the max bitrate your dvd can handle.
I do all my encoding to SVCD using TMPGenc. Render uncompressed avi in VV3.

Hope this helps.

I also have a Pioneer which can take 2520 kbps but not 2600.
But then, Pionner didn't say it is SVCD complaint...

I found many players can do VCD but not sVCD.

The GoVideo dual DVD/vhs won't do VCD or sVCD at all. Only DVD and audio CD's.

(I'll have to try the 2520k and see if my Pioneer player will take sVCD. It is OK with any VCD I have made or DVD)

My Pioneer is the 535 (I think). It is VCD compliant... but not SVCD.
But that's not a problem since it can read SVCD @ 2520kbps just like any DVD or VCD. It will also read SVCD with 'stange'* resolutions like 352x576 and others I don't remember anymore.

* strange to SVCD
