not recognizing burner

First of all, I have a Vegas Movie Studio 6.0. I recently switched computers from an XP to a Vista and am having some troubles.

Whenever I try to render my completed video, Vegas does not recognize my burner even though I have one; a Roxio CD burner. I think the problem is I only have one drive on the Vista. It's apparently an all-in-one deal where the one drive I have can import AND burn DVDS/CDS. But Vegas is trying to read the "expansion" drive where there isn't anything there.

I still have my old computer installed upstairs with Vegas, but the problem is it's so slow a task that would normally take 2 minutes takes over an hour. (more of an underexaggeration actually)

So two questions:

1) Can I get Vegas 6.0 to recognize I have a drive on my Vista
2) Can I edit my video on Vegas with this computer and transfer it to my other computer upstairs so the video can be rendered?

1. Both Vegas 6 and 7 have compatibility problems with Vista. I really suggest you just upgrade your VMS to v9, or downgrade your PC to XP.

2. I suggest you just upgrade your VMS version.

ugh. Will I have to pay to get vegas 9.0 or is there someway I can just upgrade without having to pay?

You will have to pay. But it shouldn't be more than like $40. It's well worth the money.

I had the same problem when I got a new laptop with Vista. VMSP 6 would not recognize my optical drive.

I upgraded to VMSP 8 and that solved the problem.

had the same problem when I switched to vista, always said something about not authorized?? anyway after weeks of reading these forums one of the tech guys mentioned you have to right click vegas and hit run as administrator hope this helps you. it saved me!
