Notebook Editing

I've been using VV 4.0 for a long time, on a desktop Petium 3
733MHz , 512MB SDRAM, 60GB 5400rpm HD. (Just a hobby)

I just got a Notebook. 1.4GHz Celeron M, 768MB DDRRAM,
60GB 4200rpm HD.

I've been satisfied with what I get from my old desktop, will this notebook give me at least the same quality as I've been getting?

I know the 4200rpm HD will be slower, but will the faster CPU,
and the increase in RAM equal things out. I know this is very low
tech, but I just like to play around and make videos of my grandchildren.

Any replies will be greatly appreciated!

Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to all.

Thanks very much,
Tony

I would recommend that you just try it out and see since you already bought it. It should not intefere with quality, but if you start noticing errors or dropped frames on capture, then it poses a problem. If you do incur problems simply get a firewire external hard drive to hook up to it that has a faster rpm rate. If you do not have firewire, then you can get a pcmcia firewire card for cheap on ebay or www.pricewatch.com.

Tony, I use a notebook here for V5 and it works great. Give yours a try. Goodluck, Terry

Vegas will run on just about anything. A couple of years ago, I had to edit a 2-hour, three camera shoot on a VERY old Gateway Solo 2500 (233mhz PII, 192meg RAM) and other than just generally being slow, Vegas didn't crash and it got the job done.
