Notes inside Vegas

Hello,

I like to add notes at various places as i splice tracks together, sometimes to remind myself why i did what i did when i come back to it a month later. Is there a way to do this without it being a marker that's in the rendered file?

for example using the Command marker, selecting text and using the "comment" field? if i were to do that would it show up anywhere rendered and/or is there a better way to do this?

Thanks very much!

I don't know if your notes are really extensive or not but what I do is place text on top track with Generated Media. But I keep my notes really short like "title here" or "more tension / buildup within next seconds", etc...
Anyway, since you can adjust the size of your text, you can enter quite long notes (hence smaller text) and still be able to read them.

If you want to render, simply disable the text track(s).

I use the "M" key to insert a Marker, then type in the annotation. There is a 256 character limit I believe, but that's usually quite enough for my notes. I find the "M" key marker to be one of the many useful tools in Vegas; for the most part I delete these notation markers once I've attended to the issue that they flag for me.

Me too! I've often wished I could add a "sticky note" to a clip in the MP or an event on the timeline. I too use markers for the same purpose but they clutter the workspace.

We work the same way here, so each person looking at the project knows what's going on at a given point in a timeline.
"Please review color at frame XXXX on this/that part of the image" or "PIP goes here" etc.
When you render, tell Vegas to ignore the markers if you're doing a final output.
We also tend to save markers for notes out as a separate file that can be viewed later. Ultimate S 3 will allow you to save several note files per project.

It would be nice if there was a secondary marker feature that could be turned on and off - much like note features in most word processors. Just like Vegas distinguishes between markers and regions, it would be nice to have that third alternative - and colored differently, so you could distinguish between a "note" and a frame-specific timeline reference point.

thanks for all your replies!

the problem with regular markers is that they are in essence DVD jump points. if you go into media player. and go to

view --> file markers.

you can see all of them. so if you have a comment like "this part needs rework". heh... it will show up :-)

which is why i was looking into that "command marker" and using the comment field and leaving the parameter blank. how do you tell vegas to not render markers?

there's this:
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/dxpad.htm

it's audio only but it's what you want. Perhaps he could be contacted to release the code for it to be adopted to the video side of Vegas?
