I'm working on a instructional dvd and I would like to know is there anyway I can pause a clip at a certain point and then have it pick up again from that spot after a certain amount of time. I know I can us plack back rate to slow the entire clip but is there a way to pause or slow down playback at the particular point and then resume normal playback at another point within the clip. Thanks for the help.

Velocity envelopes will change the speed differently from one spot to another. However, they only work on Video, so if you have audio as well it probably won't help.

Very simple way to competely and instantly pause is to grab a still frame shot at that point using the "floppy disk" icon in the upper right corner of the preview window, then placing this still on the timeline. Split the video at that point and drag everything to the right as far down the timeline as you want the pause to last, then place the still image in that empty spot and drag it out long enough to fill the gap.

Note that this method will create a fixed-length pause. If you want the person viewing the DVD (or showing it to someone else) to determine the length of the pause consider having them use the pause button on the DVD player.
