I was told by other users to get this media converter to enjoy my Video editing experience a bit more. Now, My question is this. It arrived today in the mail and now I have to buy a PCI Adapter for the DV (iLINK) No biggie. Sony recommends one called the DVBK-2000 which I look up and goes for $259.00 Is that an error?? Is a reg IEEE 1394 PCI ADAPTER ok. I went to BestBuy and they have some for $29.00/$39.00/$49.00

Help me!!

I paid about $40 for mine. It's a generic no-name-brand card, literally!
The only identification whatsoever is that some of the chips have a
chip foundry code on them, but no manufacturer's names.

It works dandy! Not a bit of trouble with it in the slightest.

You will probably have to pick up a firewire cable as well. The cable that
comes with the DVMC-DA2 has the small (camera) connectors at both
ends, but most firewire ports have a much larger connector. I got a
Belkin brand cable at Wal*Mart for $26.

I got an Adaptec kit at COMPUsa for @$69. It included a cable and has 3 ports, which I figured was good if I want to add some firewire hard drives later.

By the way Cheinworks, thanks for the tips. I definely see a difference in the quality compared to pulling it in through my ATI All In Wonder Pro (analogue card)...

The only thing is the ATI has some prety decent compression I guess, becasue the file is about 1/4 the size.

you can find iee1394 cards on pricewatch.com for around $15, get a name brand one, they work fine. Firewire cables go for about $6-7 at computer shows around here.
