NR2 as a notch filter

I’m using NR2 in the master FX to take out a spike at 15734 from a near by video monitor that got into all the tracks of live recording. I hand crafted a noise profile to only take out the 15734 and it works great and sounds, to me at least, very good.

Has anyone compared the sonic quality of NR2 vs. the parametric or track eq filters at 0.1 octave bandwidth?

I think it would be more interesting for you to do the comparison using the same source material. Or did you try it already?

Thanks,

drbam,

I can't tell any difference between NR2, the parametric filter, and the track filter, they all sound good on my Mackie monitors and headphones. The big difference is watching the spectrum display in Sound Forge. NR2 is a surgical instrument compared to the other filters.

My previous uses of NR2 were with material already in need of help and not with fairly pristine material. This was a 2 hour recording of a concert, pieces of which may find their way into an album some day so I'm concerned about quality.

Thanks.

Thanks Larry. I never would have thought of this. ;-)
