I am working of a video and I need to use footage shot from my Panasonic AG-DVX100 Along with footage on standard NTSC DV 720 x 480. I wanted to combind them both on the same half hour time line. But for each to play smooth the properties template need to be set for one or the other. I need them both to run smoothly. I feel like I am stuck. Does anybody know how to putt them both together?

You should have no problem combining on the same timeline track. The properties of the source files gets overwritten by the values you set for the project. So mix away. I do it all the time and it works fine. Haven't tried with DV24p, but have with just about every other type of file combination.

Remember all the VEG file you are creating is, is a window into the source file. Vegas does what it has to during the rendering process. Think of it as making fruit salad. In real world you don't have to chop and peel apples, pears, pineapple in seperate bowls, do ya? Nope, so while I'll admit a silly example same thing with mixing source files of different types. Throw them in a big bowl, (one track) let Vegas strir them up, end result, pretty slick.

You can drop any source and Vegas will resample to current template. You should have no problem with smooth playback. There is not much difference betwine 24 and 29 and visually you should not see the difference. It is just amount of capture frames.
You my see the difference betwine 15 and 29, but 24 and 29-I do not think that would make a difference.

hi ryu -

I actually did a project with dvx100 footage combined with other sources about a month ago. If you are capturing your dvx100 footage straight from dv tape...it will be at 29.97fps. I know this sounds weird, especially if you selected the "24p" or "24pA" modes while shooting. But basically, the camera shoots 24fps...but then does a 3:2 pulldown as it is recording to mini dv tape (this helps with the film look, along with the camera's special cinealook settings). This results in your footage actually being laid to tape at 29.97fps.

Long story short, you shouldn't have a problem at all if you just capture the footage normally, use the standard vegas DV template...and edit as usual.

IF you wanted to do a true 24p project with the footage you shot, you would select one of the vegas 24p templates, then import your footage. On render, (if preferences are set correctly), Vegas will remove the 3:2 pull down the dvx100 did in camera...giving you true 24p.

Anyway...hope the project goes well. I was REALLY impressed with that camera.

1. Use the NTSC DV template.
2. Go into Preferences > General, and set "Allow pulldown removal when opening 24p DV" to OFF
3. Put your material on the timeline. The 24p material will be 60i because that pref is off.

Read the Vegas 24p whitepaper.
