I don't know if the value can be set, but i work around it by ZOOMING IN.
the more you zoom in, the smaller the increments.

Huh - that's interesting. I do it mostly by feel, so when I set the value in other apps, I'm mostly interested in making the increment small enough so I don't get into a "too much, too little" kind of situation.
I don't really need an explicit value; I just need to get it small enough for tiny adjustments.

Thanks,

I had this EXACT same problem in earlier versions of Vegas. I thought it was crazy that the nudging keys would change depending on the zoom view. I primarily was having difficulty, where I was syncing audio to video, and I always wanted the nudge to be the same. My preference was a "1 frame" nudge independant of the zoom view so I could watch the video and nudge the audio until I was confortable with the sync and I didn't want to worry about what zoom I was last using when I was editing the audio.

The solution that was implemented into Vegas is that if you use the Numeric Keys 1 and 3 it will nudge the event 1 frame, which is independant of the Zoom. If you want the nudge function to be dependant upon the Zoom view then use Numeric Keys 4 and 6. This is a solution that worked for me and got implemented after I pointed out my application to SOFO, but I don't know about everyone else. You also have the snapping to grid options, if you want to drag the audio with your mouse.

Also remember to make sure your "Num Lock" is ON for the numeric keys to function as I described above.

Try the Numeric 1 and 3 keys and see if this gives you more of the feel you're looking for, it worked for me on the too much or too little problem you're experiencing. You can also use these keys to trim the events by entering the Trim mode. Hit either "[" or "]" to enter trim mode, then use numeric keys 1 and 3. It will trim the events by 1 frame. To exit trim mode and go back to nudge mode hit the numeric 5 key.

Can audio events be nudged by less than 1 frame? I am tring to line up a very specific spot in my audio with a marker (or, move the marker to the audio point). After zooming in I see that the spot on the audio track is halfway between the "frames." I want to slide the audio by 1/2 a frame to line this up right. Or be able to position my marker at this exact spot. The marker (and cursor) will only align to each frame, and unfortunately, my audio sync point is in between these frames. I need this because of a loop I am working with. This small 1/2 frame of audio makes a noticable glitch in the loop.

Is this seeming edit restriction based on the "video" side of Vegas, i.e. video frame based? Is there a work around that doesn't involve trimming the clip or going into soundforge?

By the way, this is an all-audio project. No video.

I tried going into preferences but found nothing relative to this.

Try unchecking Quantize to Frames in the Options menu.

"Can audio events be nudged by less than 1 frame?"

Yes, it can actully be nudged at a resolution of 1/20th of a sample. First do what chienworks said, and disable all quantization. Then zoom in and use the Numeric 4 and 6 keys. At the highest zoom in value, I saw I could do 20 nudges before the event got nudged 1 sample higher using the 6 key. Of course this nudge value would change depending on how far you are zoomed in. I don't agree with the nudge value set by the current zoom level, but I'm sure other users use it. It would be nice if there was some kind of display letting you know exactly what that nudge value is though. It would also be nice to define the nudge value for the 1 and 3 keys. I guess I'll add this to the feature request thread.
