numbering clips on timeline

Lili wrote on 7/16/2005, 12:10 PM
I've forgotten how to do this (with V5) and now after searching everywhere, even the manual and online help, I have not found how to have the clip numbers show when they are on the timeline - only the frame numbers - which I don't want.
Can someone please tell me which tab this option is under? I find this to be a great time-saving feature while editing.
thanks,
lili

If by "clip numbers" you mean the number in the Media Pool, I don't know.

On the Options/Preferences/Video tab, the "Show source frame numbers on event thumbnails as" drop-down list shows several choices.

Thanks Buddy - that is one of the tabs I checked and I was sure that the drop-down list of choices once contained clip numbers, besides frame numbers, and the rest that it shows. Was I hallucinating or what? In any case, I'm certain I was able to do it somehow.
I'll just keep looking, unless someone can let me know.

Most people in this forum have advanced knowledge of Vegas and many years of experience, and I thought there would be a direct, simple answer forthcoming - so I'm rather surprised, there wasn't. Thanks again for your response!

Did the clip numbers represent the position in the Media Pool?

Could you explain what you mean by Clip numbers?

What do these numbers represent?

Yes, I am referring to the clip numbers in the media pool.

Right now if I want to check a clip on the time line, to see its corresponding clip number in the media pool, I have to right-click on the event/clip and look under "Properties" where it shows "Clip number" in a box at the top.. It was much easier and faster to have the clip numbers visible on the actual events/clips that are on the timeline.

Hello
Probably you mean the clip names. Choose View and Active Take Information.

I found the info - finally - on page 95 of the manual - thanks to your reply I looked under the "active take" section instead of "events and clips".

Thanks for persisting!
