nVidia driver issue...

adimatis wrote on 9/27/2019, 4:06 AM

Hi all,

Does anyone know what was so majorly changed from nVidia driver 399.24 to anything newer that freezes Vegas?

At least in my case, anything above this version produces freezing of Vegas, most often when playing the timeline transitions.

Problem is, for some stupid Windows design, the driver will update itself to the latest, or at least the one that is built in Windows - I think version 425 - and so, without me realizing when that happens, I just get crashes of Vegas out of blue. Which you will appreciate, is quite annoying. :)

So, I would then need to either do something with newer drivers to work... or to stop updates... BTW, I have a 1050ti notebook, with 8750h CPU and Intel 630 onboard. And latest Windows updates of course - but that does not make any difference, afaik...

What could you advise?

Thank you guys!

You 're not telling which version of Vegas you use, but if that one of the last versions, this download is the best there is for me and a lot of other Vegas users:

Hey, yes, sorry I forgot to mention that I use Vegas Pro 16.

The nVidia driver download facility is what I used and I was very excited to try the "creators" version when it came out and once installed, I started to get the glitches. I tried and tried several drivers, of course I started with the newer ones, but none worked. The only one I can use is 399.24. I did not try older versions. Nothing after this one does not work for me. And this happens even after a forced fresh reinstall of Windows.

The freeze happens within the first 3-4 minutes when playing back a project. And what triggers it I noticed is crossfade transitions, as far as I can tell.

Now, I could live with this older version of the driver, but Windows update is killing me with insisting to re-install a newer version, 425, which I suspect is built-in in it, so it "reverts" to this instead leaving 399 alone...

So, I would need to either make newer drivers work with my 1050Ti and Vegas, or prevent the updates somehow.

Or change the program altogether (DaVinci is running very nicely with newer drivers) but this is not what I'd prefer at all.

Advice anyone? :) Thanks!

@adimatis

I tried and tried several drivers, of course I started with the newer ones, but none worked.

But did you also tried the Studio diver and not the Gamedriver?

@Sylk how do I do that block? I thought disableing the updates in the Device Manager will do it, but I think that does only block (maybe) new updates direct from nVidia. The Windows included (v. 425) will make it through... Thanks though.

@j-v yeah, was studio driver all along, all of them that I tried. Thanks.

I tried to find more information on web about this, but couldn't really... Might be that my specific configuration is troublesome. In which case... too bad for me! :(

Notebook Asus Ge703GL, 8750H, 16gbram, 500SSD, 1050Ti.

Anyway, who knows, maybe future updates, Vegas updates I mean, will sort it.... If not... I'll see.

Thanks Sylk, your Windows looks different than mine. :)

Would this be a temporary fix?

Did I read correctly that Microsoft will introduce a proper way to separate Windows updates from all the others, so eventually users can choose what and when to do? That would make sense.

Thanks!

Adi

No, you can pauze per 7 days with a max of total 35 days.
The update proces start automatic after the last pauze day unless pause again before the end-day.

Before updating Windows makes a restorepoint and if you allowe and use that you can go back to the moment befor the last update.

I don't use that never to go back to, but once per month I make a total backup of computer without storage and render-to HDD's.

Hi guys,

Thanks for trying to help... I looked around and I found this little guide that might be useful for whoever is in the same situation. Have a look: http://woshub.com/how-to-turn-off-automatic-driver-updates-in-windows-10/

Anyhow, such a headache for a stupid decision to make ALL updates automatic.I hope this will change soon!
