Nvidia gamma. Can somebody explain?

This issue is always seen on Nvidia cards. Don't know if ATI and others have the same "problem". When playing video files with WM Player etc the video is way too dark although it shows fine in Vegas. To fix this the overlay options in the Nvidia control panel has to be tweaked and a higher brightness, contrast and/or gamma value has to be set.

Is there a way to reset the overlay or does anyone have the correct values to eliminate this difference?

you will find that WMP and QT player are controlled by brightness. contrast etc on the monitor .. IMO reset you video card gamma, brightness etc to nuetral position ... then put up SMPTE color bars in either player ( you may have to render out 5 sec from V) .. adjust the bars using the monitor controls ... if your video card overlay also adjust WMP/QTP then use those controls to FINE tune it only after you have used the monitor controls and it need just a slight adjustment to the hue ... then SAVE the setting for the overlay ( video card as " give it a name "

now pop up Vegas and put SMPTE bars in TL .. adjust the Vegas preview window using the video card's gamma, contrast etc .. SAVE the setting as vegas editing or other name ...

depending on your viewing you can switch between the 2 saved settings ..

I do it differently. I adjust the NVidia setting so the players and Vegas match, then use the monitor to set the overall brightness/contrast if necessary.
