I think that Alex Lindsay of the Pixelcorps was talking about the new Oakley camera rumors. He pointed out that they were an optics company that made it big with sunglasses, but their true expertise is elsewhere.
The owner of OAKLEY & BLACK FLY's were once working together... but had different 'visions'. (pardon the pun)
OAKLEY is definitely the tops when it comes to Sunglasses/EyeWear & Protection. Here at the OAKLEY warehouse (it's like 5 miles from where I work) you can actually shoot a pair of OAKLEY glasses with a BB gun to show how durable they are. Their customer service is second to none and usually will replace parts of your glasses with one call.
The warhouse looks like you'd expect it to. It has 'Jump Seats', a 'Race Car' on the wall, a Full Basketball Court, and kind of looks like a Mad Max style Bat Cave. Michael Jordan did have an office there... but I never saw him come in. Lots of others did though.
OAKLEY is definitely a force to be reckoned with... I used to work there in customer service... so I'm very biased though... but I'm curious to see what they offer in the Video Camera world. -Consumer level probably.
It's only theory ( we've got to get feedback, etc)
but THESE are the design specs I've been dreaming about for years -
high resolution imagery and a 35mm sized CMOS sensor.
I've been shooting a lot this year with a Canon 5D which essentially has the same sort of specs. It totally blows any other "mini" sized digital camera away.
It looks to me like this one might be the "next big thing". I will definitely rent one for my next decent sized gig... (or I'd be happy to field test one, if Oakley's out there listening... |:>))
